Jan Jakub Tesař is the new head of the Department of Architectural Design I

He will build on the previous work of the current head, Ján Stempel. He wants to focus on foreign and interdisciplinary cooperation. He will take up his post on 1 March 2025.

Doc. Ing. arch. Jan Jakub Tesař, Ph.D., graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague, where he also completed his postgraduate studies and habilitated as an associate professor. As part of his studies, he completed internships at the Technical University of Delft and in renowned Czech Republic and Netherlands architectural studios. Since 2008, he has been a co-founder and partner of the architectural firm Stempel & Tesař Architekti, which focuses mainly on individual housing and has been awarded many times for its work. He has been Vice Dean for External Relations at the CTU Faculty of Architecture and Design, runs his design studio and is the Chairman of the Academic Senate of the CTU Faculty of Architecture. He has co-authored several professional monographs, and his work has been presented at national and international exhibitions.

As head of the department, he wants to promote international cooperation through international workshops and coordination and collaboration with a partner institute at a foreign university. He also wants to involve more external experts in studio teaching. "I know that the prestige of our school comes mainly from the quality of the teachers. The department is the very unit where a fundamentally creative and safe environment for teachers is created. I would like to continue Professor Stempel's impeccable work and keep the Institute of Design I in at least as good a pedagogical and economic situation as it is today," says Jan Jakub Tesar.

In his scientific research activities, he would like to systematically link the mapping of contemporary architecture in Bohemia - especially at the level of housing - with the writing of doctoral themes. He will also focus on coordinating the objectives and clear outputs of the dissertations. He wants to encourage greater interdisciplinary collaboration by linking studio work to philosophy or increasing support for the processing of studio work in BIM-enabled programs.
