TRADE UNION HOUSE ISTROPOLIS IN BRATISLAVA: PRESERVATION OF AN ICON SLOVAK POSTWAR ARCHITECTURE

The diploma project offers a vision for the revitalisation of the Istropolis complex with a focus on the Trade union house. The complex is redesigned in accordance with the requirements of a Cultural and Congres centre. In an attempt to create a strategy for designing in the context of the architecture of the later part of the twentieth century, a design strategy is provided for both the wider context as well as the volume itself. Multiple preservation approaches are applied, such as adaptation, revitalisation and contextual addition. The design includes solutions for the surrounding public space and a new concept of circulation and program. The aim of this project is a careful reimagining of architecture that both preserves and develops the qualities of the original concept.
