Erasmus Exhibition

Arsenale di Venezia

Annotation

The building is located in the east of the island city of Venice in Italy. It is part of the Venetian Arsenale, an ancient complex of shipyards. It has been the heart of the shipbuilding industry since the 12th century and, thanks to its age, size, sophistication of construction and shipbuilding system, it can be considered one of the first true industrial complexes in Europe. The main concept of the studio work was to find a suitable way of roofing one part of this complex, while at the same time building on the already existing massive brick walls with battlements and interfering as little as possible with the current character of the building. Another important aspect was the glazing of large openings (doors, windows, portals) and the use of the interior in a multifunctional style.

my key experience from erasmus

Studying in Venice was a very interesting experience for me. The university is located on an island, it has large studios and good facilities for students, the advantage is also a beautiful green courtyard. The classes were mainly in Italian, but the professors were helpful and welcoming to Erasmus students, it was possible to consult and present in English. It is also possible to enroll in courses in the English Master's block, but there are very few of them. The teaching was different from our studios, and included extensive lectures on both architectural design and structural design. The whole semester is spent designing both the architectural study and in parallel the structural calculations, details and drawings. The result is a comprehensive work approached from all possible angles.
