Exhibition of Studio Projects
Galleries Behind the Wall
Annotation
On the Prague boundary of Smíchov, Petřín Park and Lesser Town, a stretch of greenery pours into the street of Újezd. Alfons Mucha wanted the pavilion of his magnum opus to be located somewhere in Petřín. This plot combines the author's wish with the opportunity to place the gallery into the street line. But the exhibition space itself cannot be placed there, since direct sunlight is undesirable in a gallery, and the absence of windows would create a deaf facade. Thus a plain wall was placed on the boundary, grounding the towering roof structures of the gallery behind it. The roofs were transformed and utilized as galleries, gardens, pathways. The whole street parterre is dedicated to young artists, with spaces that offer them refuge, along with exterior and interior exhibition areas.
