COMMUNITY HOUSE FOR SENIORS IN EMMAUS GARDEN
Annotation
A simple house that responds sensitively to an existing place. The main landmark of
gardens is the Emmaus Monastery. The new building must not disturb the existing architectural
space. The house is designed on the site of a retaining wall on the slope. The house is a reassessment of monastic typology and uses it for the purposes of other civic buildings.
Part of the designed house is the chapel of St. Ivan, a Czech saint who lived in a cave for 30 years
and he sought loneliness and peace for all his life. The cave has great symbolic significance. It is darkness that has been enlightened by God's light. You enter a dark corridor that leads to the chapel, lit by a skylight.
