Variable railroad switch

Štefan Letko

Annotation

The proposal is directly connected to the train station in Kralupy nad Vltavou, fulfilling the demand for affordable housing within commuting distance to Prague. A crucial theme of the design is variability – the ability of the house to evolve and adapt over the course of its existence. The foundation consists of three configurations: 1-room, 2-room, and 3-room. Each configuration can be transformed into the remaining two, allowing for the necessary space to accommodate life changes such as weddings or the birth of children. Conversely, it provides an opportunity to allocate valuable space to someone in need. The shape of the house is inspired by the layout of diverging railway tracks and switches, with a repeating module resembling train cars.
