The authors present a vision of linking both sides of the multi-lane Liberecka Street using a megastructure designed to accommodate a complete neighbourhood – including housing, workplaces, leisure, and cultural spaces. The urban composition is not based on individual buildings but on a structure functioning as a single organism. The barrier of the street is overcome by incorporating numerous footbridges and a bridge. The proposed form is reminiscent of brutalist constructions with open ground floors and multiple elevated walkways. This design choice is justified given the modernist origins of the neighbouring estates. The project by Samuel Maga and Daniel Marek is a distinctive exploration of the possibility of reconnecting divided parts of the city.
A major strength of the project is its bold attempt to redefine the role of a traffic artery within the urban fabric.
