The last nuclear bomb memorial
Annotation
The Last Atomic Bomb Memorial, located near the Davis Science Station in Antarctica, symbolises the two faces of science - progress and its potentially devastating consequences. The main feature is a world map carved in sheet metal, where yellow perspex cylinders illuminated by LEDs mark the locations of the atomic tests. The building serves as an oasis for scientists - a space to relax, reflect and share personal records. Its shape and design respond to the extreme conditions of Antarctica, ensuring resistance to wind and snow accumulation. The project brings together art, science and human experience to encourage reflection on the responsibility of science.
