the red hug

The project's task was designing an addition to the existing House of Culture building located in Humpolec, Czech Republic. The existing building was designed to be used as a theater, but due to the badly distributed program it doesn’t follow its original purpose. That being said, main concept was reprogramming the building, and providing sufficient spaces needed for a building to function as a theater, divided into two functioning zones - one for performers and other one for visitors. It was designed in a way to follow the volume, heights and windows rhythm of the existing building. To make it more interesting, a red steel structure is “hugging” the concrete structure and flows into the interior of the foyer. Red popping color resembles the motif of the traditional theater.
