OLŠANSKÁ HOUSING

Annotation

I stand on the border between old and new Žižkov, searching for a gateway. Olšanské Square lies on one side, an ugly boulevard on the other. Is this the end of Žižkov? The answer appears in the large buildings here: Radost, the Žižkov Tower, luxury developments, high-rises, panel blocks, and offices. I propose two buildings: one long with a tower, the other square with an atrium. The smaller atrium building reflects classic old gallery-access houses, while the long one with a tower draws from the buildings near Olšanské Square. Between them and the Olšany cemeteries, I design a large green courtyard as a gateway and forecourt for a new northern entrance to Olšany.
