Library in Žižkov

Annotation

The library project in Žižkov is located in a 1940s concrete hall along Biskupcova Street. The goal was to find a more efficient use of the space, which is currently used as a garage. The original hall, with its concrete vault and skylight, was preserved, and its character was incorporated into two newly added wings. These wings house boxes made of CLT panels, which serve as book storage and seating platforms. A major challenge was preserving parking spaces. The solution involves sinking the parking lot one meter into the ground, maintaining all existing parking spots while minimizing the impact on the library space. The project blends historical elements with modern technologies and community needs.
