Annotation

On one side streets; on the other, courtyards and inner blocks. The streets have their own logic – street lines, squares, roads. However, the inner blocks emphasize the feeling of a patchwork, as if a child was assembling building blocks of various shapes and sizes that don't fit together. From the street the houses appear orderly, but inside the inner blocks the urban logic disappears. Smíchov resembles a poorly arranged Tetris game as if it was viewed from above. It contains over 3,300 meters of blind walls often directly facing the windows of neighboring houses. This semester I designed a residential building for one of these chaotic inner blocks with layout inspired by the blind walls.
