VILÉMOV MONASTERY

The Vilémov Monastery is located on the site of a former monastery through whose courtyard the current pilgrimage trail via czechia passes. The monastery, with its centrally designed layout, is intended to encourage a turn inward, but without losing contact with the outside world. The accommodation is buried underground. The entire centrepiece of the concept is a water surface in place of the original pond carrying the symbolism of inner peace. The second creative element is the gap at the site of the current path, passing through the circle and separating functionally the two worlds, representing the linearity and flow of the path. The gap also practically separates the monks' private property from their personal plots and draws the boundary of different uses.
