House for Pénelope

Bc. Julie Jajčíková

Annotation

A house for Pénelope is a place which is supposed to describe emotions of wife of Homér´s hero Odysseus. Pénelope while waiting for Odysseus was under pressure of her swains, which were trying to replace Odysseus. This place is supposed to offer Pénelope safe shelter. It is located in rocky cliffs on Ithaka island. Embedding in the rocky environment provides Pénelope a form of protection. Terraces imitating sharp cliffs make house look invisible for uninvited guests. Each floor has its own meaning which shows certain part of story of Pénelope.
