House for Penelope
Annotation
The design of this building was inspired by the story from Homer’s Odyssey about queen Penelope, while she was waiting for her husband, Odysseus, to return from the Trojan War. The structure is situated on the seashore and partially erects from the cliff. The purpose was to reflect Penelope’s feelings she experienced during the span of ten years. That is why the building is divided into several blocks. At first sight they appear to be symmetrical, however, in reality each one of them has a little bit different shape and direction, which mirrors Penelope’s mood full of insecurity and anxiety and thoughts, whether her husband is going to return back home, or not.
