Portsoken Pavilion is a central element of the new public square. The small building is part of a wider civic goal to provide space for events and leisure. It is a one-storey above-ground floor, but part of the former underground tunnels is also used to locate the basement level for business premises, facilities, kitchens and toilets. This significantly reduced the amount of land needed above ground and thus provided more public space around the building.
