SENSE OF BELONGING

A former irrigation reservoir located on top of a hill near Kutná Hora has been left empty and unused. Upon arriving at the top of the forested hill we can easily be taken aback by the reservoir's monumentality. It appears strange and desolate and might even provoke fear – the fear of uncertainty, emptiness or loss of meaning In my design I attempted to give back meaning to this abandoned place, bring peace in it and connect it with the surrounding forest. Hence, the main element of my design are the winding paths constructed at the level of the mezzanine floor of the reservoir. They intertwine between the trees that ensure a sense of privacy and security. The design allows us to get lost, explore, and thus dive into the depths – the depths of the reservoir, the treetops and ourselves.
