Exhibition pavilion in Stromovka

Veronica Anna Marnová

Annotation

The gallery is dedicated to the artist Alexander Calder and its shape fits into the environment of the Stromovka Park where it is located. It also reflects the character of Calder's works, especially his kinetic mobiles. The building is divided into three parts. Two of them serve as exhibition space and one is used as a backstage. The lower part of the gallery is 3 metres high and suitable for smaller installations, while the higher space, 6 metres high, is ideal for hanging mobiles and also for stabiles that can be placed on the floor. The windows are oriented to the southwest, allowing the sun's rays to project the moving shadows of the mobiles onto the opposite wall. This creates a play inside the gallery of lights and shadows that resembles the movement of leaves in the wind.
