ZAN projects
Pavilion of Jan Palace

Annotation
The first and second project assignments have a lot in common. They serve as a reminder of who Palach was and what he strived for. They combine two main ideas that led Palach to his tragic end – change and unity. Another strong motiv that both projects emphasize is fire. Both buildings, through their elements, evoke these powerful moments, whether through concrete blocks or protruding cantilevers. The projects are connected to the Nusle Bridge through their strong linearity and simplicity. Both aim to convey the drama and gravity of Palach’s actions through their shapes, such as the sharp edge of the pavilion. The function of the first part is to evoke Palach’s feelings and to empathize with his role. The pavilion in the second part uses the individual cantilevers as exhibition rooms.
