Pavilion for Josef K.

Annotation

What happened to Josef K.? Court. Labyrinth. Quarry. Three moments in Kafka's The Trial. The descent into abyss, where a stone reminds us of K's fate, links both parts of the project. On the labyrinthine path, under the weight of Nuselský Bridge, one can feel the heaviness of the anonymous system trapping K. The first part questions if K could have escaped. Though the path is not direct, it inevitably ends in the abyss, at the stone. In the second part besides descending into darkness symbolizing ignorance with only the stone illuminated one can ascend towards light and knowledge about Josef K, The Trial and Kafka. The highest, brightest level offers the most understanding. Yet, the view from the gallery into the dark ground floor reminds us that ignorance never fully disappears.
