PAVILION ŠEMÍK

Jan Vrzák

Annotation

In the design of the pavilion, I drew inspiration from the Czech legend of Šemík. According to the legend, the mythical horse jumped with his master, Horymír, from the walls of Vyšehrad into the Vltava River to save him from certain death. However, he did not survive the heroic act. I wanted my design to be just as dynamic and fearless as the jump itself, while also reflecting Šemík’s elegance and devotion. The building consists of two parts – the body and the legs that intersect it. The converging, massive body is divided into five floors, with a main and a secondary entrance. The legs, which function as a structural element supporting the entire weight of the building, also bring natural light into the entire structure through an upper skylight.
