Eduscape: Landscape & climate change adaptation in education

Eduscape is an international project funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the EU, focusing on landscape in education for children and young people in times of ongoing climate change.

 https://eduscape.online/

The Eduscape project is based on the idea that the landscape ("Landscape" in the broadest sense of the word) in its complexity can very well serve as a tool for teaching topics related to climate change adaptation and other topics requiring an interdisciplinary approach. This includes current societal challenges such as biodiversity loss, issues of social inclusion, the protection of cultural heritage and the preservation of landscape identity.

Landscape architecture institutes from three foreign universities contributed to the project outputs: In addition to the Institute of Landscape Architecture of the FA, CTU, the Czech Republic also involved the non-profit organization Město přátelské k dětem, z.s., which has long been involved in the participation and education of children in relation to the environment.

The methodological and working materials produced within the project are freely available to all interested parties on the website here:

DAAD project - cooperation with TU Berlin

The Department of Landscape Architecture, FA CTU in Prague and TU Berlin are collaborating on research on the topic "Identity of Places and Climate Change Adoption, Solutions and Limitations" within the international project DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)

The DAAD grant (Application for Eastern Partnerships) runs from 2024 to 2026, with the partner university TU Berlin, Institute for Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning. The project focuses on mobility of teachers and students, cooperation in the form of workshops, excursions and meetings. The result is not only to strengthen the cooperation, but also to publish a professional publication "Handbook for Historically Sensitive Places" and to organize a final international conference.

In the framework of the cooperation, an interdisciplinary workshop "Landscape Infrastructure in Historic Urban Environments" was held in June 2024. A discussion workshop was organized with the aim of creating a professional platform for research and collaboration between academics and researchers, focusing on the landscape structure of cities in relation to its identity, urban and historical values and on the environmental change induced by the needs of adaptation to climate change. Today, the topic is often viewed from a narrow perspective within a single discipline (conservation, design, transport infrastructure, vegetation...) - a comprehensive approach and expert discussion is lacking. The project aims to facilitate a discussion between experts from different fields of study, which will lead to a deeper understanding of a topic that has not yet been comprehensively understood through research.
