KOLÍN - ZÁMECKÁ GAP SITE - GALLERY

Annotation

The new building of the gallery of modern art is located close to the historical castle complex. The structure consists of three volumes: the main volume of the gallery – a cube – and two circulation towers. By rotating the cube, it becomes a solitary object, creating new connections with the historical surroundings. Towards the historical granary, a sunken courtyard is placed, where outdoor exhibitions can take place, connected to the area in front of the granary by a staircase. The courtyard is also visible from the first castle courtyard behind the entrance gate, allowing even a casual passerby to engage with the art displayed there. The cube contains a central atrium, around which a spiraling ramp runs, linking the various exhibition spaces.
