What would happen if public space wasn’t just at the pedestrian level but also above it? If the street had multiple levels? If you could "hide away" in public space while still seeing what’s happening around you?
My project offers a new perspective on public space in cities with low-rise buildings but high population density, as in some parts of Tokyo. This was also the basis for the entire urban concept. Thanks to net structures, people have the opportunity to find themselves in an unconventional "in-between space" between public and private areas.
This experiment tests nets in different forms: the first is a completely public net, accessible from the street. The second is a private net, accessible only from individual buildings. And finally, nets for greenery that provide shading.
