Metamorphosis of the Old Cemetery - Old Cemetery in Bubenec
Landscape Architecture, Bachelor Project

Annotation
The Old Bubeneč Cemetery in Prague 6, long neglected and overgrown, is being brought back to life. The aim of the proposal is to restore its function as a respectable place for burial, farewells, and remembrance. Designing the project, my priority was to maintain a balance between restoring the cemetery's functionality and preserving its original atmosphere. I proposed a reconstruction of the original cemetery wall along with the existing gravestones, which I am placing around the perimeter of the cemetery. Around them, century-old ivy will grow on. Toward the center of the cemetery, new burial options are being introduced, including burial niches and columbaria. I am also proposing a new pathway network within the cemetery, connecting it with the neighboring Stromovka park and creating two new entrances. The existing vegetation will be selectively thinned, and replacement planting is planned. The space will also be enriched with large perennial flower beds.
