The research deals with the energy-efficient design of settlement unit in response to the current requirements of designing buildings and settlements in terms of an overall energy balance of buildings and settlements. It explores passive and active ways of usability of technical infrastructure resources on the basis of given natural and climatic conditions. The research focuses on the use of energy-efficient energy sources for specific settlement units located in specific locations with the given natural conditions, depending on the availability of energy sources. Based on an analysis of selected reference energy-efficient settlements, the work examines the possibilities and limits of energy concepts. The results are confronted, among others, with the aspect of architectural design. The aim is to specify generally applicable knowledge useable for designing of settlement units in similar types of sites with similar input conditions, on the base of examples of specific energy proposals of settlements. The intention is to select mainly medium-sized or small settlements with similar natural and climatic conditions.
