The Vienna-based architecture office querkraft was founded in 1998. Around 100 projects, competition entries and buildings in Austria and abroad provide ample evidence of the successful work by this team that currently comprises around 45 staff members. The mission statement formulated by querkraft is “giving people space”, which expresses a constant striving for generosity in the field of spatial design and for the kind of freedom that facilitates users’ personal development. In the area of housing, in particular, querkraft has realised many projects that embody this philosophy of poetic pragmatism. Office and museum buildings or projects in public space are also a fixed part of the work of querkraft as is shown by, for instance, the Liaunig Museum in Carinthia, which has already been placed under monument protection. querkraft have received numerous sustainability awards for the first car-free IKEA in Vienna and the Austrian pavilion for the world Expo in Dubai.

About the studio at FA
the goal is: love
we search for poetry and beauty in architecture together with you. we will constantly ask whether your project is not only functional and sustainable but also emotional, whether people will be happy in your building and whether the mere sight of it will bring joy to the pedestrians. architecture that is loved will be cared for and live for a long time. love is the best form of sustainability.
the studio is: opinion-building
we want you to find your own strong opinion. our studio pursues the concept of plural criticism. all three querkraft architects as professors (gerd, peter, jakob) and the assistant (michal volf) will alternately give feedback, which, desirably, will not always be identical. you should learn to get different opinions, to filter them and to shape a project that inspires you and us. according to the schedule the studios are twice a week in the afternoon. on mondays the assistant michal volf will be present. every other week on thursdays there will be one of the three professors present in prague alternately with a video call. all dates with one of the professors ( = every thursday) is obligatory to be followed by all students during the 3 hours. so you learn from the critics of the other projects. we motivate you to form teams of up to three students.
