Landscape Architecture, MA diploma project

Annotation

The diploma project is dedicated to the landscape-architectural design of the core area of the battlefield of the decisive battle of the Austro-Prussian War, which took place on 3 July 1866 near the fortress city of Hradec Králové. The uniqueness of this landscape lies in its protection under the status of a landscape conservation zone, aimed at preserving its exceptional cultural values, primarily the highly concentrated monuments and crosses situated at authentic sites of bloodshed. The conceptual study of the core battlefield area is based on historical layers of an organically formed and associative cultural landscape, which are adapted to the context of the 21st century. The central theme of the battle is interwoven with the local agricultural tradition and educational activities designed to evoke an emotional experience of the authentic battle scene. The conceptual layers memoryscape and lifescape aim to create a sustainable form of the landscape, mainly through subtle interventions, designed with deep respect for the war victims buried en masse across the entire area of the landscape memorial.
